What are Wisdom Teeth Extractions?
Every solution will be considered before your Calgary NE dentist decides to remove any of your teeth. Wisdom teeth extraction, however, often needs to be removed to eliminate pain and avoid further dental complications. This beneficial solution can entail the removal of one or all four additional back molars. Wisdom teeth typically grow in between the age of 17 to 25. They are easier to remove at a younger age so if you are encountering problems you should get to the dentist sooner than later, instead of waiting several years.
Why Might You Need Wisdom Teeth Extraction?
When visiting your Calgary NE dentist, a panoramic X-ray will help them determine what exactly is going on with your molars. The main reasons for this type of tooth removal are:
- Crowding – Wisdom teeth can grow in at weird angles often because there is little to no room where permanent teeth already are. This can lead to other teeth moving into crooked positions due to the pressure from these back molars. This crowded space can cause bite problems.
- Impacted – Infection can easily occur when these back molars sit trapped beneath the surface of your gums. Infection leads to decay. Though rare, it may even lead to the formation of cysts in the jaw. This can be very painful and might require temporomandibular joint disorder treatment.
- Partial Eruption – When your wisdom teeth only come through the gums a little bit the area is more prone to infection and decay. Your gums may become inflamed easily spreading from the source to the surrounding areas.
Give yourself some peace of mind by speaking with us at Savanna Market Dental. We will provide safe and efficient treatments to extract your extra back molars to eliminate continual pain and problems.
What Are the Steps of Wisdom Teeth Extraction?
- Step 1: You will be given a local anesthetic to numb the area and eliminate pain.
- Step 2: A small hole is made in the gums to extract teeth that are hiding out under there. Some bone from the teeth may be removed and cut into small pieces to make removal easier.
After this, you are given post-procedure instructions to follow which include going home to rest and avoiding drinking through straws to avoid dry socket.
