TMJ (TMD) Therapy - Dentist Calgary

The temporomandibular joint or TMJ, is a joint that essentially connects your jawbone to your skull, and is located on both sides of your jawbone, one on the left side of your jaw and one on the right side of your jaw. When you suffer from or experience pain that is associated with your temporomandibular joint, then you may have what dental professionals call temporomandibular joint disorder, otherwise known as TMD. There are many signs and symptoms that are associated with TMJ disorders and include the following but are not limited to:

  • The feeling of tenderness or sensitivity in your jaw
  • Direct pain in one of your two temporomandibular joints
  • Aching, soreness, or throbbing pain around your ears and face
  • Having pain or difficulty while chewing food
  • Having difficulty opening and closing your mouth
  • Experiencing lockjaw

If you experience severe cases of the symptoms listed above, or are persistently suffering from these symptoms, then it is wise to visit your dentist for an examination and diagnosis. During your appointment at Savana Market Dental, your NE Calgary dentist, Dr. Amerjot Kler will have a discussion with you regarding the symptoms that you are experiencing and suffering from. Your NE Calgary dentist will then proceed to examine your jaw and feel for any abnormalities as you open and close your mouth. Part of the examination will also include an observation of the motion of your jaw, and adding slight pressure onto areas of your jaw to identify any form of pain or discomfort.

If your NE Calgary dentist has any reason to believe that the pain you are suffering from may be linked to TMD, then dental x-rays, dental scans, or other forms of dental imaging equipment will be used to examine the overall structure of your mouth including your teeth, jaw bone, and joints. Once diagnosed, a variety of treatments from medications, different forms of therapies, home remedies, and even dental surgery may be discussed and advised to help alleviate any pain associated with TMJ disorder. Book an appointment with your NE Calgary dentist today if you suspect that you may have TMD!
